Scheduling Institute

Jay Geier developed the Scheduling Institute concept when employed as Vice President of Marketing for a big private practice in Georgia. Jay Geier's marketing resulted in a good amount of phone calls to the practice, but the phone calls were not converting into new patients. Jay came to the realization it didn't matter the number of phone calls his marketing produced when the people answering the telephones were not sure how to turn these phone calls into brand-new patients. With this particular awareness the theory behind the Scheduling Institute came to be. Jay Geier put in the next few years researching phone calls made to the practice and testing a variety of techniques for dealing with these calls. Jay Geier spoke at conventions while establishing the Scheduling Institute’s very first product: a self-study kit, coined the New Patient Generation System, that taught medical professionals the best way to control their most precious asset - their employees. The self-study kit was initially launched in 1997. Even though the guide was working and health professionals were growing their new patients, Jay could see that the self-study kit alone didn’t offer enough accountability for several health professionals. In 2005 the Scheduling Institute put in place its very first membership program, which included telephone accountability for doctors and their office staff.
In 2006, one doctor came to the realization that he wasn't going to take the time to put into action the self-study kit by himself, so he asked Geier to come to his own practice to implement the kit and train his team personally. After returning from the training, Geier could tell that using in-office classes was extremely effective for a practice’s growth and engagement, yet knew that he wasn't prepared to personally travel nationwide to teach practices. As an alternative, he personally selected and trained Scheduling Institute’s “Certified Training Specialists”, and began offering in-office trainings - coined “On-Site Trainings” - to clients. - The Scheduling Institute on Bloomberg

Sherwin conceived and developed the innovative Newport Beach and Company marketing model that not only handles the city’s tourism efforts but also works with the local restaurant association, neighborhood business associations, the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Newport Beach to provide a fully integrated approach to marketing the city worldwide. The organization also created a community foundation to aid in local leadership development.

A nationally recognized leader and consultant in community brand development, Sherwin co-authored the international best selling book Destination BrandScience TM, published by the International Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (now DMAI) in 2005. Sherwin also serves as a faculty member for the DMAI Certified Destination Marketing Executive Program and was the founder of the DMAI Hall of Fame, which recognizes the most influential figures in the destination marketing industry.
For seven years he was also an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Fullerton for its Travel and Tourism course. Sherwin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Political Science from California State University, Fullerton and was named in 2011 a Vision and Visionary by the university, its highest honor given to alumni. He was also named to the Department of Communications Wall of Fame.

Sherwin also attended Stanford University’s Leading Change and Organizational Renewal Program through its Graduate School of Business. Sherwin is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America (APR) and has also received his Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) credential from DMAI.

He is married for the last 29 years to Liz, a television talent agent. They have two daughters, Lauren, a graduate student at the University of Southern California and Allyson, a student at the University of Missouri.
